Pavan K Varma
Pavan K Varma is a writer-diplomat and now a politician. He has written over a dozen bestselling books including the highly successful Krishna: The Playful Divine, Ghalib: The Man, The Times and Mansions at Dusk: The Havelis of Old Delhi. His first book on a contemporary subject was the path breaking The Great Indian Middle Class, followed by Being Indian: The Truth About Why the 21st Century Will Be India’s and Becoming Indian: The Unfinished Revolution of Culture and Identity. He has also translated the poetry of Kaifi Azmi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Gulzar. Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism’s Greatest Thinker was launched with the presentation of the first copy to the Hon’ble President of India. His latest book is Chanakya’s View: Understanding India in Transition. He was also awarded the Druk Thuksey, Bhutan’s highest civilian award, by His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. He was till recently, an MP in the Rajya Sabha, and is advisor (cabinet rank) to the Chief Minister of Bihar.
