Her Excellency Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj
Her Excellency Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987. She was the all-India women’s topper of the 1987 Civil Services batch and the topper of the 1987 Foreign Service batch. She began her diplomatic journey in Paris, thereafter, serving in Mauritius and at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, New York. She was also a staff officer to the Commonwealth Secretary General, London. From 2011–2014, she was India’s chief of protocol, the first and only lady so far to have held this position in the government. She was India’s permanent representative to UNESCO, Paris from 2014–2017 and was called back in 2014 on a special assignment to direct the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as to assist with the organization of the third India-Africa Forum Summit in 2015. She was India’s high commissioner to South Africa and to the Kingdom of Lesotho from July 2017 to March 2019. Since May 2019, she has been the ambassador of India to the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan.
