Dechen Dorji is the country representative for the World Wildlife Fund program in Bhutan. He served as a policy researcher with The People’s Project office during Bhutan’s transition to democracy in 2007 and 2008. He later served as a professional assistant in His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck’s secretariat office. Dechen worked for seven years as a project manager in Eastern Bhutan for a World Bank and Swiss government-funded natural resource development project. He is also the founding director of the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research. He is the chairman of the Royal Society for Protection of Nature. He also serves as the chairman for Lhaksam, Bhutan’s first HIV/AIDS CSO and as a director for Bhutan Philanthropy Ventures. He is the recipient of the National Order of Merit (Gold) for his leadership and his team’s contribution in initiating the innovative conservation financing mechanism called Bhutan for Life with the Royal Government of Bhutan.
