Dasho Tshering Tobgay
Dasho Tshering Tobgay is a Bhutanese politician, environmentalist, cultural advocate, and was the Prime Minister of Bhutan from July 2013 to August 2018. He is the president of the People’s Democratic Party and was the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly from March 2008 to April 2013. He was presented with the Lungmar Scarf by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck for his efforts in the well-being of the nation in 2014. At a 2016 TED talk, he spoke about Bhutan’s pledge to remain carbon-neutral for all time. He also shared Bhutan’s mission to put happiness before economic growth and set a world standard for environmental preservation. Dasho Tobgay spoke at the UN general assembly in 2017, resonating Bhutan’s environmental achievements and the need for the world to unite to save the environment. He also spoke at the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) in 2019 on the first ten years of democracy in Bhutan.
