Sudhir Kakar

I fell in love with Bhutan the first time I visited that beautiful country, almost fifteen years ago, at the invitation of the government and UNDP to discuss  what could be the constituents of Gross National Happiness, Bhutan’s unique contribution to development dialogues. Charmed by the people, Bhutan’s cultural riches and its natural beauty, I promised myself I would come again but time passed and it is only now that I can keep the promise I made to myself then. But Bhutan was never locked away in a  vault of memory. At least for a couple of years it was very much a living presence while I worked on the stories of its culture hero, Drukpa Kunley.
